Stretton Choral Society

Current Season

2016 - 2017

This year, in a change from tradition, the Society's AGM was held at 6.45 pm on Thursday 8th September 2016 (immediately before the first rehearsal of the new season).

The Christmas Concert took place at Church Stretton School on Saturday 3rd December 2016.  The principal works were the much loved Gloria by Vivaldi plus a new work - Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo which was extremely well received by the audience.  The usual Christmas songs and carols plus readings by choir members completed the programme.

The Spring 2017 concert, took place on Saturday 6th May also at Church Stretton School, and was a great success.  The principal work sung was the Mozart Requiem preceded by Haydn's Theresienmesse.

The new season (2017-18) will begin on Thursday 7th September at 7.30 pm.  This will be preceded by the AGM - all current members will receive official notification nearer the time.  The Christmas Concert (December 2nd) is planned to move away from the format of previous years and will contain works by Buxtehude, Finzi (In Terra Pax) and Vaughan Williams (Fantasia on Christmas Carols and The First Noel). The Spring Concert (May 12th)  will comprise the Schubert Mass in G and Eternal Light - a requiem by Howard Goodall, plus short supporting pieces by Beethoven and Mendelssohn.

New members, particularly tenors. are always very welcome to join us - see the Membership / Joining page.
